K. Renee Horton’s path to helping power humanity’s return to the moon didn’t follow a straight line. A Baton Rouge native and LSU graduate, Horton turned early setbacks into fuel, ultimately carving out a career at NASA that connects her directly to the Artemis program.

As weather extremes and new threats challenge Louisiana’s crawfish industry, LSU is stepping forward—building on decades of research to develop more resilient, efficient, and predictable production methods for the future.

By studying samples collected by previous Apollo missions of lunar soil, as well as meteorites from the Moon, LSU geologist Matthew Loocke has been able to unlock new information about how the Moon formed, what it looked like in the past, and what previously unknown chemistries and critical minerals might exist there now.
